Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake until nearly dry, about 10 minutes, tossing halfway through.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add eggs and egg yolks to the sugar mixture and mix until well blended.
- Pour in milk, heavy cream, and vanilla, whisking until combined.
- Place bread cubes in a large bowl, pour the milk mixture over them, and toss to coat. Let rest for 15-30 minutes.
- Spread melted butter in a baking dish, add the soaked bread mixture, and spread evenly.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 300°F until set in the center, about 50-65 minutes.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving warm with sauce and whipped cream if desired.
