Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 16 oz hearty French bread
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 egg yolks egg yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake until nearly dry, about 10 minutes, tossing halfway through.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Add eggs and egg yolks to the sugar mixture and mix until well blended.
  5. Pour in milk, heavy cream, and vanilla, whisking until combined.
  6. Place bread cubes in a large bowl, pour the milk mixture over them, and toss to coat. Let rest for 15-30 minutes.
  7. Spread melted butter in a baking dish, add the soaked bread mixture, and spread evenly.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 300°F until set in the center, about 50-65 minutes.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving warm with sauce and whipped cream if desired.
