Easy Thanksgiving Turkey

Ingredients

The Turkey

  • 10-25 lb Turkey

Herb Butter

  • 1 cup Butter, softened
  • 4 sprigs Fresh Rosemary (minced to make 1 Tbsp)
  • 4 sprigs Fresh Thyme (minced to make 1 Tbsp)
  • 8 leaves Fresh Sage (chopped to make 1 Tbsp, or use 1 Tbsp dried rubbed sage)
  • 2 cloves Garlic, pressed
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

Stuffing Ingredients

  • 1 Onion, sliced thick
  • 1 Orange or Lemon, sliced
  • 1 Apple, cut in wedges
  • Fresh Herbs (use remaining from making the herb butter, or what you have)

Instructions

  1. Thaw the turkey if it is frozen, ideally 2-3 days in advance.
  2. Prepare the turkey by positioning the oven rack on the lowest level and preheating the oven to 325° F.
  3. Remove the turkey from packaging and place it in a shallow roasting pan, patting it dry with paper towels.
  4. Make the herb butter by mixing together the softened butter, rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Loosen the skin of the turkey and insert the herb butter underneath, then coat the outside of the turkey with the remaining butter.
  6. Stuff the cavity of the turkey with the onion, orange, apple, and any remaining herbs, then tie the legs together.
  7. Cook the turkey in the oven for approximately 15 minutes per pound, checking its temperature about ⅔ of the way through.
  8. Remove the turkey when it reaches 160° F in the thickest part of the thigh and let it rest for 25 minutes before serving.
