The sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- In a mixing bowl, blend ricotta cheese and egg with a fork.
- Stir in basil, oregano or thyme, and garlic.
- Add 2 cups of mozzarella and parmesan cheese, and mix in the prepared spinach.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
- Spread 1/3 cup of marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Stuff each cooked pasta shell with about 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture.
- Align the stuffed shells in the baking dish with openings facing upright.
- If desired, stir red pepper flakes into the remaining marinara sauce.
- Cover the shells with the remaining marinara sauce and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Serve warm.
