Rose Dumplings

Ingredients

The filling

  • 200 g pork mince
  • 150 g cabbage
  • 2 tbs chopped green shallots
  • 1 tsp ginger juice
  • 1 tbs Sake
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1 tbs sesame seed oil

The wrappers

  • 32 Gyoza wrappers

Cooking liquid

  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Chop the cabbage and green shallots finely, sprinkle with salt, and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Squeeze out excess water from the cabbage and shallots, then mix with pork mince and sauces in a bowl.
  3. Place one wrapper on a board, wet one edge, and overlay it with another wrapper. Repeat with two more wrappers.
  4. Spoon a heaped teaspoon of the pork mixture onto the center of each wrapper, wet the edges, and fold to seal.
  5. Roll the dumpling from one side to form a rose shape and repeat with the remaining wrappers.
  6. Heat oil in a frying pan, place the dumplings, and brown the bottoms.
  7. Add water to the pan, cover, and steam for about 5 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and let the water evaporate, then serve the dumplings.
