Ingredients

Spicy Simple Syrup

  • 5 pieces jalapeño rounds with seeds
  • ¼ cup agave syrup
  • ¼ cup water
  • a pinch salt

Margarita

  • 2 oz high-quality mezcal
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz orange liquor
  • ½ tablespoon spicy agave simple syrup
  • 1 piece jalapeño round

Instructions

  1. Make the spicy agave simple syrup by combining jalapeño, agave, water, and a pinch of salt in a saucepan, bringing it to a boil, then simmering for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Set the syrup aside to cool.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add mezcal, lime juice, orange liquor, spicy agave simple syrup, and a jalapeño round.
  4. Shake the mixture for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  5. Fill a glass with ice and pour the margarita over it.
  6. Garnish with fresh lime wedges and jalapeño rounds.
