all-purpose flour (or 2 pounds)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and salt in a large bowl and stir.
- Add flour all at once and mix until the dough is uniformly moist.
- Cover the bowl loosely and let the dough rise for about 2 hours at room temperature.
- When ready to bake, sprinkle a pizza peel with flour and prepare the dough.
- Take a large handful of dough (about ½ pound) and shape it into a ball.
- Form the dough into a cylinder about 1½ inches in diameter and taper the ends.
- Place the shaped dough on the pizza peel and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees with a pizza stone inside.
- Brush the loaf with water and make diagonal slashes on top.
- Transfer the loaf onto the pizza stone and add hot water to a metal pan in the oven.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until the baguette is deeply golden brown.
