Ingredients

The beef

  • 1 ¼ lbs flank steak, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

The sauce

  • 1 ½ teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • cup water
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar

The garnish

  • ½ cup green onions, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Instructions

  1. Coat the flank steak with cornstarch in a resealable bag.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over high heat.
  3. Cook the meat in a single layer, seasoning with salt and pepper, for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Remove the meat and place it on a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. Add garlic and ginger to the pan and cook briefly.
  6. Combine soy sauce, sesame oil, water, and brown sugar in the pan and bring to a simmer.
  7. Mix cornstarch with cold water and add to the sauce, boiling until thickened.
  8. Return the meat and green onions to the pan and toss to coat with the sauce.
  9. Serve over rice if desired.
