The orange buttercream

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C).
- Cream the softened butter in a bowl, then mix in the sugar and egg.
- Add the molasses and mix until well combined.
- Sift the flour, salt, baking soda, and spices over the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Chill the dough for 10-15 minutes.
- Scoop rounded tablespoon balls of dough onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet and flatten slightly.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, being careful not to overbake.
- Cool the cookies on a rack before preparing the buttercream.
- For the buttercream, cream the butter and orange zest, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy, thinning with orange juice as needed.
- Spread buttercream on half of the cookies and top with the other half to form sandwiches.
