Spicy Serrano Grapefruit Margarita

Ingredients

For the Rim

  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp ancho chili powder
  • 1 tsp sugar

For the Margarita

  • 1 slice serrano pepper
  • ¾ oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz fresh orange juice
  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • a pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the rim ingredients in a shallow dish and mix well.
  2. Run a lime slice over the rim of each glass and dip into the mixture to coat.
  3. Fill the glasses halfway with ice and set aside.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the serrano slice with the simple syrup.
  5. Add the strained citrus juices, tequila, and a pinch of kosher salt to the shaker.
  6. Fill the shaker with ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  7. Strain the mixture into the rimmed glasses.
  8. Garnish with a small grapefruit or lime wedge and serve immediately.
