Traditional Birthday Bread Pudding

Instructions
- 1. Lightly butter an 8-inch square baking dish and spread the bread cubes in it.
- 2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well blended.
- 3. Pour in the milk and whisk until combined, then pour the mixture over the bread cubes.
- 4. Let the mixture stand, pressing down on the bread occasionally, until evenly soaked for about 20 minutes.
- 5. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- 6. Scatter the cranberries over the soaked bread and press to submerge them.
- 7. Set the baking dish in a large, shallow roasting pan and add hot water to the roasting pan halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
- 8. Bake the pudding until a knife inserted near the center comes out almost clean, about 45 to 55 minutes.
- 9. Serve warm or at room temperature, dusting the top of each slice with confectioners' sugar.
