Ingredients

The base

  • cups unfiltered apple juice
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ medium lemon, juiced

The spices

  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 5-6 slices fresh ginger
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 pinch ground cayenne (optional)

The tea

  • 2 bags rooibos tea

Optional ingredients

  • 1 ounce bourbon (optional)
  • 1-2 Tbsp sweetener (coconut sugar or maple syrup, optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine apple juice, water, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, fresh ginger, ground ginger, salt, and pepper in a saucepan and heat until simmering.
  2. Turn off the heat and add the rooibos tea bags, steeping for 10-12 minutes.
  3. Taste and adjust flavors, adding cayenne and/or bourbon if desired, and sweeten if necessary.
  4. Remove the tea bags and pour the mixture into serving glasses, adding additional lemon slices if desired.
  5. Serve hot and enjoy.
