Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add grated onion and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant.
- Pour in canned tomatoes and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Stir in sugar, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Blend the sauce until smooth using an immersion or regular blender.
- Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions and reserve ¼ cup of pasta water.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the sauce and reserved pasta water, simmering for 5 minutes before serving.
