Ingredients

The Marinade

  • 1 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 2 inches fresh ginger, peeled and minced
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

The Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef short ribs
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 2 cups low sodium beef broth
  • for serving cooked Jasmine rice
  • for garnish sliced green onion

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and black pepper in a medium bowl.
  2. Add the beef ribs to the marinade, ensuring they are submerged, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  3. After marinating, remove the short ribs from the marinade and pat them dry, setting the marinade aside.
  4. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot over medium-high heat and sear the short ribs until browned on all sides.
  5. Add the rice wine vinegar, beef broth, and reserved marinade to the pot, bringing it to a boil before reducing to a low simmer.
  6. Cover and allow to cook for 2-3 hours until the meat falls off the bone.
  7. Serve with Jasmine rice and garnish with sliced green onion.
