Slow Cooker Beef Short Ribs

Ingredients

The beef

  • 4 pieces bone-in beef short ribs

The seasoning

  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp ground sea salt
  • ¼ tsp cracked black pepper
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder

The cooking base

  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ cup chopped red onion
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 Tbsp sriracha sauce
  • 2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce

Instructions

  1. 1. Set the slow cooker to low and line it with a slow cooker liner if desired.
  2. 2. Pat the short ribs dry with a paper towel and place them in a large Ziploc bag.
  3. 3. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika, then add to the Ziploc bag and shake to coat the ribs.
  4. 4. Heat vegetable oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat and brown the short ribs on all sides for 1-2 minutes each.
  5. 5. Remove the ribs and place them in the slow cooker.
  6. 6. Discard excess grease from the pan, leaving the browned bits, and add chopped onion, cooking for 2 minutes while scraping the bits.
  7. 7. Add the remaining ingredients to the pan, stir to combine, and bring to a low boil for 1-2 minutes.
  8. 8. Pour the mixture over the short ribs in the slow cooker.
  9. 9. Cover and cook for 6 hours or until the meat is tender and falls off the bone.
  10. 10. Serve hot over your choice of starch or vegetables.
