Easy Shepherd's Pie With Ground Beef

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and grease a 7x5-inch baking dish.
- Cook chopped potatoes in a pot of salted water until fork-tender, then drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef, then remove and drain the fat.
- In the same skillet, cook onions and carrots until softened, then add garlic and thyme.
- Stir in flour and ketchup or tomato paste, then gradually whisk in chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce, simmering until thickened.
- Combine the beef and peas with the sauce mixture, then transfer to the baking dish.
- Mash the potatoes with butter, milk or cream, and egg yolk, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the beef mixture and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
