Muffuletta Hot Dogs

Ingredients

The toppings

  • 1 cup sliced peperoncini with brine
  • 1 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

The hot dogs

  • 8 pieces all-beef hot dogs
  • 8 pieces hot dog buns, split
  • 16 slices provolone cheese
  • to taste chopped black olive tapenade
  • to taste sliced roasted red peppers from jar

Instructions

  1. Mix the peperoncini, brine, red onion, and oregano in a bowl and let it stand for 30 minutes before draining.
  2. Prepare the barbecue to medium-high heat and grill the hot dogs.
  3. Place the buns, flat side up, on the grill and cover with 2 slices of cheese.
  4. Grill until the cheese melts and the hot dogs are heated through, about 5 minutes for the hot dogs and 3 minutes for the buns.
  5. Transfer the buns and hot dogs to plates and top with pickled onions, tapenade, and peppers.
