Ingredients

Spiced Cinnamon Maple Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1 dried red chili pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes

Hot Toddy

  • ½ medium lemon (juiced)
  • 3-4 Tbsp spiced maple simple syrup
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • to fill Hot water
  • 1 slice or wedge lemon (for garnish)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup by combining maple syrup, water, cinnamon sticks, chili, and red pepper flakes in a saucepan and boiling it.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, then let it steep for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. Strain the syrup into a glass jar.
  4. To prepare a hot toddy, mix the juice of half a lemon, 3-4 tablespoons of the simple syrup, 2 ounces of bourbon, and hot water to your desired strength.
  5. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a lemon slice or wedge.
