Ingredients

The meat

  • 2 pounds boneless beef short ribs

The seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

The cooking oil

  • 1 tablespoon oil

The vegetables

  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 large carrots, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, diced

The liquids

  • 14 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F.
  2. Season the beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then dredge in flour.
  3. Heat oil in a medium pot and sear the meat until golden brown on all sides.
  4. Remove the meat and cook the onion, carrot, and celery until fork tender.
  5. Pour in the tomatoes, beef broth, BBQ sauce, and brown sugar, and let it simmer.
  6. Return the meat to the pot, cover, and bake for 1 ½ hours until the meat falls off the bone.
  7. Shred the meat and serve.
