Ingredients

The cake

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ cup poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1-2 drops yellow food coloring

The frosting

  • ½ cup cream cheese frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and grease an 8-inch cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and poppy seeds.
  3. Add the vinegar, vanilla extract, oil, water, and lemon juice to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Incorporate the yellow food coloring until the desired color is reached.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
