Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Mix all ingredients except mushrooms or tempeh in a bowl.
- If using portobello mushrooms, thinly slice them and place in a baking pan.
- If using tempeh, cut it in half and boil for 10-15 minutes, then slice into ¼ inch pieces.
- Add the spice mix to the mushrooms or tempeh and massage to coat well.
- Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes if desired.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown, mixing halfway through.
- Warm the pita in the oven for 3-5 minutes.
- Assemble the shawarma in the pita and serve with toppings.
