Yaki Onigiri

Ingredients

Onigiri

  • 2 cups uncooked short grain rice
  • 2 cups water

Miso Flavour

  • 1 tbsp miso
  • 2 tsp mirin
  • 2 tsp sake
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp finely chopped chive
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Soy Sauce Flavour

  • 1.5 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp everything bagel seasoning
  • 1.5 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice according to your rice cooker's instructions.
  2. While the rice is cooking, mix the miso flavour ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Once the rice is cooked, divide it into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a triangle using cling wrap.
  4. For the miso flavour, heat a cast iron skillet, add butter, and grill the onigiri for about 1 minute on each side, brushing with miso paste until crispy.
  5. For the soy sauce flavour, heat a cast iron skillet with vegetable oil, grill the onigiri for about 1 minute on each side, brushing with soy sauce until crispy.
  6. Serve the grilled rice balls with garnishes.
