Instant Pot Short Ribs with Gravy

Ingredients

The marinade

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup water or beef broth
  • cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

The main ingredients

  • 3 pounds bone-in short ribs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. 1. Whisk together the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, sesame oil, salt, garlic powder, ginger, and black pepper to make the marinade.
  2. 2. Place the ribs in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Allow to marinate at room temperature for an hour or refrigerate overnight.
  3. 3. Set the Instant Pot to HIGH sauté and add the butter. Once melted, add the onion and cook for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4. Add the beef ribs to the pot along with any remaining marinade, then lock the lid and set to cook on HIGH pressure for 45 minutes.
  5. 5. After cooking, allow the pressure to release naturally, then carefully remove the ribs and trivet from the pot.
  6. 6. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water, then add to the pot and bring to a boil until the sauce thickens.
