Instructions
- Prepare the pie crust according to the recipe up to step 5.
- Mix granulated sugar and cornstarch in a small bowl.
- Combine blueberries and blackberries in a medium bowl, and strawberries and cherries in a large bowl.
- Add part of the cornstarch mixture to each fruit mixture, along with lemon juice and almond extract, then refrigerate.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C).
- Roll out one disc of chilled dough and place it in a pie dish, tucking it in smoothly.
- Use aluminum foil to divide the filling sections in the crust.
- Spoon the strawberry filling into the larger section and blueberry filling into the smaller section, discarding excess liquid.
- Roll out the second disc of dough and cut it into strips and stars for decoration.
- Remove the foil and add the top decorations to create the American flag design.
- Brush the crust with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake the pie for 20 minutes at 400°F, then lower the temperature to 350°F (177°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes.
- Cool the pie for 3 hours at room temperature before serving.
