Chinese BBQ Pork

Ingredients

The meat

  • 1 lb pork belly, pork shoulder, pork butt or pork tenderloin

The marinade and sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • tablespoons maltose
  • tablespoons honey
  • tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rose wine
  • 3 dashes ground white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon five spice powder
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Combine all the sauce ingredients in a saucepan and heat until thickened.
  2. Rub garlic onto the pork and marinate with 2/3 of the sauce for at least 4 hours.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and roast the pork for 20 minutes.
  4. Let the pork cool, then thread onto skewers and brush with remaining sauce before grilling or broiling for about 1 minute per side.
  5. Slice and serve with remaining sauce and steamed rice.
