Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant or active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Caramel

  • 10 tablespoons butter
  • 1 ¼ cups packed light brown sugar
  • cup light corn syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 to 1 ½ cups coarsely chopped pecans

Filling

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk until scalded and mix with butter, sugar, and salt until melted.
  2. Let the mixture cool, then stir in the yeast and let it rest until foamy.
  3. Add the egg and gradually mix in flour until the dough is soft and slightly sticky.
  4. Knead the dough for a few minutes, then let it rise until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the caramel by melting butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt, then whisk in cream and vanilla off the heat.
  6. Spread the caramel mixture in a baking pan and sprinkle pecans on top.
  7. Roll the dough into a rectangle, spread with butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon before rolling it up.
  8. Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them in the pan over the caramel.
  9. Cover and let the rolls rise until puffy, then bake until golden.
  10. Cool for 10-15 minutes before flipping the buns onto a serving tray.
