Ingredients

The pasta

  • 1 pound fettuccine pasta

The sauce

  • 6-8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1-2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chopped basil
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the fettuccine according to package directions until al dente, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water.
  2. In a skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped basil and reduce the heat to medium-low.
  4. Whisk in the heavy cream and then add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring until smooth.
  5. Season the sauce with salt and pepper.
  6. Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce, tossing to coat. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water as needed.
  7. Garnish with nutmeg if desired and serve immediately.
