Ingredients

The dough

  • ¾ cup Butter, unsalted, softened
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 lg Egg
  • ¼ cup Molasses
  • 2 ¼ cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • ½ tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Salt

For rolling

  • to taste Additional Sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and molasses.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  6. Roll the dough into 1 ½ inch balls and then roll in sugar.
  7. Place the sugared balls on ungreased, parchment-lined baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
