Ingredients

The Chocolate Sheet Cake

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup chopped Oreo cookies

The Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, at room temperature
  • ½ cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oreo cookies chopped for topping the cake

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Melt the butter in a saucepan, then whisk in the cocoa powder and hot water until boiling.
  5. Combine the melted butter mixture with the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  6. Add the egg mixture and stir in the chopped Oreo cookies.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for 18 minutes.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Once the cake is cool, frost it with the cream cheese frosting and top with chopped Oreo cookies.
