Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups masa harina
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 ¾ cups warm water

Fillings

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup refried beans

Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. Combine masa harina, salt, and warm water in a bowl and mix until thickened.
  2. Knead the mixture until a smooth dough forms and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into 14 balls and create a pocket in each.
  4. Fill the pocket with refried beans and shredded cheese, then reform the ball and flatten it into a disk.
  5. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and cook each pupusa for 3 minutes on each side until browned.
