Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Simmer the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, then drain.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet, then set aside and remove excess fat.
- Cook onions and carrots in the same skillet until softened, then add garlic and thyme.
- Stir in flour and ketchup/tomato paste, then add chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce, simmering until thickened.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper, then stir in the ground beef and peas.
- Mash the cooked potatoes with butter, milk/cream, and egg yolk until smooth.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the beef mixture in the skillet.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the potatoes are golden brown.
- Let cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
