Ingredients

The scones

  • 3 cups pastry flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup cold butter
  • 1 cup toasted pecans
  • ½ cup half and half
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Maple glaze

  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon maple extract
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare your ingredients.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until it resembles small peas, then add the toasted pecans.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the sour cream, half and half, maple syrup, and vanilla.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, adding cream as needed until the mixture holds together.
  5. Transfer the dough to a floured surface, knead gently, and shape into a disk or rectangle.
  6. Cut the dough into 8-12 equal pieces and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake until golden and puffed, checking for an internal temperature of 200°F.
  8. While baking, prepare the maple glaze by heating maple syrup and whisking in powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Once scones are done, let them cool for 15-20 minutes before drizzling the glaze over them.
