Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small cup, whisk together the maple syrup and milk, then set aside.
- In a bowl, combine the flour, quinoa or oats, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a food processor or by hand until it resembles small pebbles.
- Add the maple syrup mixture to the flour and mix until just combined, adding more cream if the dough is too dry.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently to bring it together.
- Shape the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle, trim the edges, and cut into nine equal squares.
- Arrange the scones on the baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with large-grain sugar.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden on the bottom and tops.
