Spanish Rice

Ingredients

The rice

  • 2 cups white rice

The flavorings

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 10 ounces fresh tomatoes, cut into quarters
  • 4 pieces bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Rinse and drain the rice, then set it aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add the onion, garlic, and rice, stirring until aromatic and lightly browned.
  4. Pour in the boiling water, chicken bouillon powder, sugar, salt, and ground white pepper, and stir well.
  5. Place the tomatoes and bay leaves on top of the rice.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and cover, simmering for 20 minutes until the rice is tender.
  7. Remove the bay leaves and stir lightly to loosen the rice before serving.
