Konnyaku Steak with Shishito Peppers

Ingredients

The steak

  • 1 bar Konjac (Konnyaku)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 10 g butter
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp sugar

The peppers

  • 10 Shishito peppers

Instructions

  1. Cut the konjac bar into thin fillets and score the surface.
  2. Cut the fillets into strips and sprinkle salt over them, rubbing it in for 5 minutes.
  3. Boil water in a saucepan and cook the konjac for a few minutes, then drain.
  4. Wash the shishito peppers and make small cuts to prevent bursting.
  5. Combine soy sauce, mirin, and sugar in a bowl and set aside.
  6. Heat olive oil and butter in a frying pan, then add garlic until fragrant.
  7. Add the konjac and shishito peppers to the pan and fry for a few minutes.
  8. Add the sauce mixture to the pan and stir to coat everything.
  9. Remove the shishito peppers once they change color, and continue cooking the konjac until the sauce thickens.
  10. Serve the konjac steak with the shishito peppers.
