Instructions
- Heat oil in a heavy saucepan or deep frying pan.
- Add rice and brown it to ensure even cooking.
- Once browned, add tomato sauce (use 3/4 to the whole can based on preference).
- Add water or broth, garlic, onion, and salt, and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes until liquid is absorbed and rice is cooked.
- For a variation, sauté minced garlic and diced onion in oil before adding the rice.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired.
