Korean BBQ Beef (Bulgogi)

Ingredients

The beef

  • 1 lb beef steak or Sukiyaki Beef, very thinly sliced

The marinade

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced white onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger

Instructions

  1. Slice the steak against the grain into the thinnest strips possible, optionally placing it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to firm it up.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, black pepper, sesame seeds, green onions, white onion, garlic, and ginger, and whisk together.
  3. Add the sliced steak to the marinade, coat well, and let it marinate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  4. When ready to cook, heat a wok or large non-stick skillet to medium-high heat until sizzling.
  5. Use tongs to transfer the marinated meat to the pan, tossing often until cooked through, cooking in batches if necessary.
  6. Serve hot over rice with a vegetable side.
