Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare an 8x4-inch baking dish.
- Whisk together the flour, poppy seeds, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- In a stand mixer, combine sugar and lemon zest, rubbing them together until moist.
- Add the butter to the mixture and whip until fluffy, then mix in the eggs one at a time, adding vanilla with the last egg.
- Heat the milk and sour cream until warm, then add to the butter mixture alternately with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-55 minutes, tenting with foil after 40 minutes if necessary.
- Let the bread cool for 5 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare the glaze by heating lemon juice and sugar until dissolved, then brush it over the top of the bread, allowing it to absorb.
