Strawberry Cream Cheese Breakfast Pastries

Ingredients

The pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 large egg
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

The filling

  • 2 oz cream cheese
  • 1 ½ Tbsp strawberry jam
  • 1 drop red food coloring (or beet powder, optional)
  • cup very small diced strawberries

Instructions

  1. Thaw the puff pastry according to package directions and preheat the oven to 400°F halfway through thawing.
  2. Mix cream cheese, strawberry jam, and food coloring in a bowl until smooth, then refrigerate.
  3. Cut the pastry into heart shapes using a cookie cutter and transfer to a baking sheet.
  4. Score a heart shape inside each cut-out heart without cutting through the dough.
  5. Spread 1 tsp of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart, avoiding the edges.
  6. Top the cream cheese layer with diced strawberries.
  7. Brush the edges with the egg wash mixture.
  8. Bake for 14-15 minutes until golden brown, then cool and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
