Ingredients

The pastries

  • 1 box puff pastry
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 6 tablespoons berry jam

The glaze

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
  • to taste water water

The egg wash

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • to taste optional coarse sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whip cream cheese until fluffy, then mix in egg yolk, sugar, and extracts.
  3. Thaw and unfold puff pastry on a floured surface, rolling it slightly.
  4. Cut the pastry into rectangles and score the edges without cutting through.
  5. Fill each rectangle with cream cheese mixture and a dollop of jam.
  6. Brush the edges with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Bake until golden brown and puffed, then cool on a rack.
  8. Drizzle with powdered sugar glaze once cooled.
