Ingredients

The shrimp

  • 1 pound shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¾ cup whole-wheat flour
  • coconut oil for cooking

The sauce

  • cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco hot sauce
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • small handful sliced green onions (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine the shrimp and buttermilk in a shallow bowl and let it sit while preparing the sauce.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, rice vinegar, honey, soy sauce, Tabasco, and minced garlic to make the sauce.
  3. Spread the flour on a plate, shake off excess buttermilk from the shrimp, and roll it in the flour until well coated.
  4. Heat a thin layer of coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat and pan fry the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Toss the cooked shrimp in the sauce until coated, garnish with green onions if desired, and serve.
