Ingredients

The cake

  • 1 and ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
  • 1 and ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons espresso powder
  • ½ cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup full fat sour cream
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • cup boiling hot water

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 12 ounces full-fat brick cream cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Optional Toppings

  • Salted caramel or chocolate ganache

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 10-inch Bundt pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and optional espresso powder.
  3. In another bowl, mix the oil, eggs, sour cream, buttermilk, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then add hot water and mix until smooth.
  5. For the cream cheese filling, beat the cream cheese until smooth, then mix in the egg, sugar, and vanilla.
  6. Pour ⅔ of the chocolate batter into the Bundt pan, spread the cream cheese filling on top, and then pour the remaining chocolate batter over it.
  7. Bake for 55-65 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 2 hours, then refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.
  9. Garnish with optional toppings before slicing and serving.
