Ingredients

The cheese ball

  • 1-2 pieces jalapeños, chopped
  • 1 ½ cups cashews
  • 3 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • teaspoon mustard powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon minced onion
  • ½ teaspoon dried dill
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Coating (optional)

  • ½ cup crushed crackers or breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup finely chopped fresh herbs of choice

Christmas tree décor (optional)

  • as needed pieces small round crackers
  • as needed pieces skinny pretzel sticks
  • as needed tablespoons slivered almonds
  • as needed tablespoons chopped colored peppers or other veggies or fruit
  • as needed tablespoons chopped herbs
  • as needed tablespoons breadcrumbs for the 'snow'

Instructions

  1. If using fresh jalapeños, chop them; if sautéing, cook until softened.
  2. Grind the cashews in a food processor until they resemble a fine powder.
  3. Add vinegar, lemon juice, salt, liquid smoke, garlic powder, onion powder, and mustard powder to the cashews and blend until smooth.
  4. Incorporate parsley, minced onion, dill, pepper, and jalapeños by pulsing the mixture.
  5. Transfer the mixture to cheese cloth, shape it into a ball or cone, and secure it.
  6. Place it in a mesh strainer over a bowl and refrigerate for at least 4-6 hours or overnight.
  7. Once set, coat with optional toppings like crushed crackers or breadcrumbs.
  8. If desired, decorate as a Christmas tree using slivered almonds, pretzels, and veggies.
  9. Serve with crackers and veggies.
