Ingredients

  • 2 cups blackberries

Topping

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup almond meal or almond flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup melted butter or coconut oil
  • to taste vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Melt and brown the butter in an oven-safe skillet, then add pears, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, and almond extract, mixing well.
  3. Bake the mixture for 10-12 minutes until bubbly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, almond meal, 2 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Whisk in milk and melted butter until slightly lumpy.
  6. Spoon the batter over the filling and sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Optionally, broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispy topping.
  9. Allow to cool slightly and serve warm with ice cream.
