Ingredients

The meat

  • 3 lbs bone-in pork shoulder

The marinade

  • cup homemade dry rub
  • ¾ cup apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Louisiana hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke

For wrapping

  • 2 tablespoons homemade dry rub
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar

BBQ sauce

  • 1 cup Stubb’s® Original Bar-B-Q Sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Score both sides of the pork shoulder to allow the marinade to penetrate.
  2. Rub the dry rub over the pork shoulder and add the apple juice, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, hot sauce, and liquid smoke.
  3. Marinate the pork in a plastic bag in the refrigerator overnight or for 24 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 250°F (121°C).
  5. Transfer the pork shoulder onto aluminum foil and discard the marinade.
  6. Mix the dry rub and brown sugar, then rub it over the pork.
  7. Wrap the pork tightly in aluminum foil and place it in a roasting pan.
  8. Slow roast the pork for 6 hours at 250°F or 3 hours at 350°F (176°C) if short on time.
  9. Heat the BBQ sauce in a saucepan and mix in the brown sugar.
  10. Remove the pork from the oven, unwrap the foil, and broil for 1-2 minutes on each side.
  11. Let the pork cool for 30 minutes, then shred it and reserve the juices.
  12. Serve the pulled pork with BBQ sauce.
