Ingredients

The salmon

  • 1 pound fresh salmon filet

Homemade BBQ Rub

  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 1-2 teaspoons brown sugar or sweetener

Optional Honey BBQ Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • cup BBQ sauce
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the smoker to 225 degrees using mesquite or alder wood pellets.
  2. Rub the spices from the BBQ rub into the salmon to ensure flavor penetration.
  3. Place the salmon in the smoker, skin side down.
  4. Smoke the salmon for 40 minutes to 1 hour until it reaches an internal temperature of 135-145 degrees.
  5. For the optional honey BBQ glaze, combine honey, BBQ sauce, and lemon juice in a bowl and stir.
  6. Brush the glaze over the salmon when it reaches about 120 degrees, then continue smoking until it reaches the desired internal temperature.
