Maple Fig Tarte Tatin

Ingredients

The tart

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter
  • ½ cup real maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 16 pieces fresh figs, halved
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

For garnish

  • to taste fresh thyme
  • to taste blueberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Melt the butter and maple syrup in a skillet, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla, then arrange the figs cut side down in the skillet.
  4. Cover the figs with the puff pastry, pressing down gently and tucking the sides under.
  5. Make three small cuts in the center of the pastry, place the skillet on a baking sheet, and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let it rest for 2 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
  7. Garnish with thyme and blueberries, and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
