Easy Stovetop Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 4-6 cups cubed croutons or cubed white bread
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup finely diced celery
  • ½ large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 tbsp poultry seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground pepper
  • 2 tbsp minced fresh sage
  • 2 tbsp minced fresh thyme
  • 1 tbsp vegetable stock paste
  • 2½-3 cups water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and butter a medium-sized casserole dish.
  2. In a frying pan over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the celery, onion, and garlic until softened.
  3. Add the poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper, cooking for a few more minutes.
  4. Stir in the herbs and sauté for 1 minute, then add the vegetable paste and whisk in water, cooking for 5 minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and add the bread cubes, mixing until evenly coated.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the baking dish, spread evenly, cover with foil, and bake for 15 minutes.
  7. Uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to crisp the top, then serve warm.
