Ingredients

The cupcakes

  • cup cake flour
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup whole milk
  • cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

The frosting

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the cake flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a mixer, cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy, then add the eggs and vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour mixture and alternate with the milk and buttermilk until combined.
  5. Fold the batter gently to ensure even mixing.
  6. Fill the muffin cups about ⅔ full with batter.
  7. Bake for 17 to 22 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For the frosting, cream the unsalted and salted butter until pale, then mix in the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla until fluffy.
  10. Frost the cooled cupcakes as desired.
