Teriyaki Meatballs

Ingredients

The meatballs

  • 250 g Ground Beef
  • ½ unit Onion, finely chopped
  • ½ unit Carrot, finely chopped
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Grated Fresh Ginger
  • ½ unit Egg
  • 1 tbsp Sake
  • 1 tbsp Potato starch
  • pinch unit Salt and Pepper
  • 15 ml Oil for deep fry
  • 5 cm White part of scallions
  • 1 tsp White sesame seeds

The teriyaki sauce

  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Sake
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Mirin
  • 2 tbsp Water

Instructions

  1. Score and slice the white part of the scallion, then set it aside in cold water.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, carrot, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, ginger, egg, sake, salt, and pepper, and mix well.
  3. Take a small amount of the mixture, shape it into a meatball using your hands and a spoon.
  4. Heat oil in a pan to 170°C (338°F) and deep fry the meatballs until golden brown.
  5. Prepare the teriyaki sauce by mixing soy sauce, sake, sugar, mirin, and water in a small pan and heating until slightly thickened.
  6. Coat the fried meatballs in the teriyaki sauce and serve in a shallow bowl.
  7. Drain the water off the scallions, sprinkle sesame seeds over the meatballs, and top with sliced scallions.
