Instant Pot Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

The sauce

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil or canola oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 16-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • 1 leaf bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated fresh parmesan

To serve

  • spaghetti noodles or preferred noodles as needed cooked simultaneously until al dente
  • additional as needed grated parmesan

Instructions

  1. 1. Set the Instant Pot to Sauté mode and heat the oil.
  2. 2. Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, and green bell pepper; cook until browned.
  3. 3. Drain excess grease and return the insert to the pot.
  4. 4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste, scraping any browned bits from the bottom.
  5. 5. Add the bay leaf, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper; stir well.
  6. 6. Secure the lid and set the Instant Pot to Manual High Pressure for 7 minutes.
  7. 7. Once done, perform a Quick Release of the pressure and remove the lid.
  8. 8. Discard the bay leaf and stir in the grated parmesan; adjust seasoning if necessary.
  9. 9. Transfer the cooked spaghetti noodles into the sauce and toss together for 1-2 minutes.
  10. 10. Serve in bowls topped with additional grated parmesan.
